In this period (the enlightment) cience makes a lot of advances. So people figured out that God is not the only cause or solutions to all the problems.
In this poem Matthew Arnold tries to communicate the people of his age to not lose faith in God.

The poet asks people to believe again. The poet is desperate to get back the faith they had lost. For the poet it was really a hard moment to see how from believing in God, who people thought decided everything, their hole life, their luck and what there destiny was, to other more logical explanations for us today such as science.
This was the period from the Middle Ages to the Enlightment, it was trhe period when science appeared and new things starting giving more sense to facts in the everyday life, or diseases, logical explanations in why did they got sick or why did apples turned to a brownish colour, for example.
The reason that everything that happenned to us, good or bad or just facts in the everyday life were because God decided it, or at least they believed that God decided it as they did not have lot of knowledge nor another possible explanation till the science appeared and all turned to have logical explanations.

well, the poem was written in the enlightment time. During the middle ages, the period before, the answer to all the questions people had was God. Science apeared in the Enlightment adn started to answer this questions. In this poem the poet aks the people to belive again in God. Not to lose their faith.

The poem was written when the enlightment took place or just after it. In that period of time, people started to lose Faith in God and things were more related to science and it's explanations. People believed in God, but everything wasn't because of him. The poet is asking a universal appeal of Faith. He wants people to believe more in God, and to have Faith in Him.

The poem was written during the enlightmen. in the periot before this one, the middle ages, the answer for everything was GOD, but in the enlightment, science developed, and everything had other reasons, that werent connected with god, so people started to lose faith. the poet is telling the people dont lose faith

The poet is asking people to belive more in god. To be more like we where, that everything was because God wanted. We can say he din't like the big change of middle ages to modern ages, because God was left behind, and now the answers for our questions are science and not God. The period of time was (i think) that after de middle ages, but not a long time after. At the beginning of the Modern ages, very beginning.

the poem was written during the enlightment, and it describes how it was at the middle ages and then at the modern ages. How the faith in God dissapeared, while the sience developed.
I think this poem is asking people to belive again in God and in religion.

well, as the poem was written during the enlightment, people started believen that God wasn't the only solution. So the poem "transmits" a message which says that they didn't have to lose faith, and keep on trusting.

The poet is asking people to believe in god, because in the enlightenment (the period when the poem was written)science was improved and it gave explanations too the most of the things that happened in that period so people started to believe more in science than in god.

This poem was written during the enlightment, that was the period of time in which people stopped believing and depending so much in God and started believing more in science. As maybe the author misses those days he asks people of this time to believe more in God and not to loose faith

The poet it´s asking the people to don´t lose faith in God. Because it was written during the enlightment so, people started to answer their cuestions with cience, and they started to lose their faith in God.

The poet, by hidden messages is asking people to recover faith in God again, because during the enlightment, with scientific developments and discoverments God was not the answer to everything anymore, in hands of this poem he "acude" to an universal appeal for people to recover that faith
